Welcome

Welcome to this companion website for the book, Tuked Rini, Cosmic Traveller by Monica Janowski, published by NIAS Press and the Sarawak Museum.

When the book was published in 2014, copies of the Sarawak edition included a DVD with an audio recording of the Legend of Tuked Rini as recited by Balang Pelaba. Due to durability concerns, copies of the international edition published by NIAS Press did not include a DVD; instead we decided to make Balang Pelaba’s marvellous recital of the legend available online.

A companion website with just a sound-track seemed a poor idea. As a result, we have broadened the scope of the website to present more information about the world from which Tuked Rini sprang – the world of the Kelabit people of Sarawak.

As such, we included other materials complementary to the book. These are listed on the right.

In time we aim to augment this website with more treasures. But in the meantime we hope that you find the website offers insights into the fascinating island of Borneo – a land that continues to attract scholars and travellers alike – and just maybe it tempts you to seek out a fabulous book.
